India Gas Generator market
Rise in demand for gas generators is fueling the market growth
Natural gas is one of the cleanest burning fossil fuels and releases less toxins into the atmosphere than other power generation fuels. Natural gas generators run quieter than diesel generators, making them ideal for applications in generator rooms or where noise regulations are in force.
Considering the larger power requirements, gas generators typically have a lower initial cost than comparable diesel generators. Moreover, gas fuel is typically cheaper than diesel fuel, keeping long-term running costs lower. Instead of repeatedly refilling fuel tanks, natural gas generators can be connected to local gas lines to provide nearly unlimited fuel, barring major disasters and utility outages. Diesel generators require additional time and money to polish the fuel to remove contaminants. Diesel has a limited shelf life, which requires
Latest Developments in India is Driving the Market Growth
In 2022, Kirloskar Oil Engines announced the official launch of its gas-powered generator. The IoT-enabled gas generator not only operates efficiently in Piped Natural Gas (PNG) frigid conditions, but also provides a digital monitoring system that allows users to remotely monitor generator performance and key parameters in real-time from almost anywhere. In addition, emissions and noise levels are much lower than traditional generator sets. The company has also launched a dual fit kit that can be retrofitted to existing and future diesel gensets to work with a combination of gas and diesel.
In the year 2018, Mahindra Powerol, a business unit of the Mahindra Group, has announced its entry into the gas-powered generator segment with the launch of its first CNG/NG generator in Delhi. The company launched its 6-cylinder 125kVA gas generator for the Delhi market. This was India's first CPCB-II (Central Pollution Control Board Stage 2 Emission Standard) approved gas generator. The particulate-free power unit produced at the company's Chakan factory produces negligible environmental pollution.
Environment & Safety Concerns
Natural gas releases carbon dioxide, a toxic gas that is harmful to health. At the same time, generators are always connected to pipelines and rely on a constant supply of natural gas. Storms and severe accidents can interrupt the supply of natural gas to generators, causing project downtime. Another drawback of natural gas generators is that they are slightly more dangerous than other types of generators. Natural gas is highly flammable so an explosion or fire may occur if a leak is discovered.
